HRC full paint job - codes, decals and mirrors

Post by 4c8dan » Tue Mar 05, 2019 8:21 am

Hi all,

I have been reading through some old threads and see some old requests for measurements of paint lines, decal placement etc.

Did anyone ever compose any kind of list of HRC paint codes, measurements etc.?

I have a pretty sound bike which I bought partly dismantled that I stripped to bare frame (mainly for evaluation and cleaning) and reassembled. It is now MOT'd and has new serviceables (brakes, tyres, chain/sprockets, clutch etc.)

The bodywork however has been 'rattle canned' in yellow and has a few small questionable repairs. I aim to have the panels stripped of old paint and repairs, prepped and painted. I guess the best approach would be to get the paint code for the HRC white and get all panels to a good standard then build form there with the Blue, Red and Yellow... and DECALS etc.

I have a good painter in mind but I would like an order of operations and the relevant paint codes, measurements and DECALS.

Any help would be appreciated. I have been in touch with Alistair re mirrors, so may have a way forward there...

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Some of the major paint shops such as Dream Machine: http://www.dream-machine.co.uk/
and Spray Bay: http://spraybay.co.uk/
reportably have exact reproduction detail. Might be costly though when compared to your own painter. Another process is for your painter to scale the measurements from an original brochure.

Also, I have used R S bike paints for my VF1000R and their colours are an excellent match:

I've seen some pretty poor colour matches out of dream machine, particularly the Candy Aleutian Blue, though admittedly a few years ago.

Spraybay look like an interesting company.

Colour codes are:-

PB127CU Candy Aleutian Blue
NH138 Shasta White
R134 Fighting Red

RS paints are good, but expensive. That said, if you want a decent match and finish, pay the money...

Ian Wright may have decals. It's worth contacting him. He also had all or most of the warning decals printed up,

If you're already in contact with Alastair, he had some great reference pictures of his bike, which would likely be useful to you. I'd leave it a couple of weeks, as he's taken the NS on a road trip for a couple of weeks.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is.

Image Works is also good for decals. I have used them for tank decals:
