Hi cant seem to upload a picture.
Ill try to describe the part ive got left ive no idea where it goes.
About a 3 inch plastic hollow black housing with open triangle end and 10 inch black breather or overflow pipe on the other end. with a small metal mounting bracket on the plastic. Its got a few holes round in the middle of the housing???

I'm struggling to think of anything answering to that description.

The only Black plastic items I can think of with a 10" drain are the coolant reservoir and the battery tray..
If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is.

I'm wondering if it is an import model where the airbox had various modifications for emissions (California ?)

I would have thought the NS predates emissions equipment?

By 'emissions' I mean breathers that take waste vapour out of the engine and fed into the airbox, though it would only be from the gearbox on a two stroke.

Sussed it - it is a collector for the carb overflows - my 86 NS doesn't have it - the overflows just hang down separately, but my 88 one has the overflows going into this triangular shaped collector mounted on a bkt at rear of crankcases with a single, larger pipe exiting the collector.
I will add picture later

It really is an unknown part, according to the schematics, though I have seen it when removing an engine out of the first NS400 I had.

Deserving of being in the 'other' section.

What is the engine number of your bike ?
