2nd hank tank required, repair?

Post by grumpus » Fri Aug 17, 2018 8:10 pm

Hi all.

I've recently bought a freddy spencer rep ns400r sadly the lovely new paint job has started to react and bubble up in dozens of places.
Upon further inspection its full of rust, the tank liner inside has been put in on top of severe rust, and all the bubbles on the outside are basically rust coming through. there are loads of pin holes all over the tank .
So what I'm asking is does anyone know can repair this tank satisfactorily and re-paint it?
How bad is too far gone? the last thing I want to do is pay for a respray only to find the rust coming through in a few years?
recommendations welcomed, failing that anyone have a good tank they want to move on? anything considered CASH WAITING !!!
thanks, graham

You will find many specialists will cut open the tank to eliminate all traces of rust and repair in your circumstances, quite possibly thats what you need but after a preliminary investigation(usually with a camera), cutting it open is the only sure way to tell how bad it is or not.

A couple of years back a friend of mine had his RD tank which was full of holes repaired by West Mercia Radiators but a classic motorcycle shop near to me also repairs them (MTS Classics, Hanslope), id imagine of you have a classic vehicle resto outlet in your part of the country, they will have repaired many in the past or can put you in touch with someone who can, nothing is too far gone, it just depends how much your prepared to spend to sort it..good luck anyway.
